That route covered approximately 1.5 miles. Participants began lining up near Cannon Falls High School at 820 East Minnesota Street at 9:30 a.m.

The practical detail is where the parade finished. Since it ended at the fairgrounds, the schedule naturally encouraged people to continue into the fair instead of treating the parade and afternoon activities as separate outings.

The useful local rule: Let the parade carry the day toward the fairgrounds. Do not build a plan that requires crossing town repeatedly to check off every activity.

Archived parade information can remain online after schedules change. One older route document listed an 11:30 a.m. start, while the current 2026 fair page listed 11 a.m. Checking the current fair schedule each year is a small step that can prevent a major timing mistake.

Pick one afternoon anchor at the fair

The July 4 fair schedule was full enough that trying to cover all of it would have turned the afternoon into a race. A better approach was to choose one primary activity and let everything else remain optional.

Cannon River Winery is nearby at 421 Mill Street West. Its regular Friday and Saturday hours are 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., but its website did not confirm special July 4 hours. That is the kind of stop I would verify directly before relying on it during a holiday schedule.

CannonBelles is another logical downtown option for coffee, ice cream and locally made artisan cheese. The Chamber says the locally owned shop has operated since 2019 and maintains daily, year-round service with extended summer hours. Its holiday hours were not confirmed in the available research, so checking before heading over remains the safest plan.

The larger point is not that everyone needs a downtown stop. It is that the fair runs through the entire afternoon and evening. A deliberate break can be more useful than adding one more activity simply because it appears on the schedule.

Return to the fairgrounds before dusk

The Cannon Valley Fair scheduled its July 4 fireworks for dusk. The Cannon Falls Campground calendar estimated approximately 9:30 p.m. for its guests, but the fair’s official wording remained “dusk.” Event and weather updates should always take priority over an estimated time.

That made the evening plan straightforward in 2026:

1. Follow the parade toward the fairgrounds.
2. Choose one afternoon fair anchor.

Miesville Ravine Park Reserve is not a simple hiking substitute in 2026. Dakota County says the trailhead is closed through November 2026 for construction. The open Cannon Falls end of the Cannon Valley Trail is the more practical starting point, subject to current conditions.

Keep the summer rhythm going after July Fourth

The Cannon Falls Downtown Farmers Market runs from June 6 through October 24 in 2026, with regular hours from 8 a.m. to noon. The city did not confirm whether it operated on the July 4 holiday, so it is best treated as a general Saturday option rather than part of this year’s verified Fourth schedule.

The Cannon Falls Community Pool lists standard Saturday open swim from noon to 6 p.m. Admission is free for children four and younger, $3 for ages 5 through 17 and $4 for adults. Weather and closure notices are posted through the pool’s Facebook group. Holiday hours were not confirmed, but the pool can still provide a straightforward option on another summer Saturday.

These details are what turn a generic outing into a day that actually works. Check the live schedule. Respect the overlap between major events. Use downtown as a pause rather than another box to check. Keep a backup ready when trail conditions or business hours change.
